Over here in UK we call them 'denim jackets'. I feel that 'jeans jacket' is much better than 'jean jacket', though - so I'm with you on this one, Mary!

Rebecca, that's so interesting..."denim jackets." Now, since we have an international perspective here everyone, I think that "Jeans Jacket" is the clear winner. ha/ha No winners or losers really-everyone here knows I just love to know what people think and feel.

It’s so interesting to get different perspectives on things, isn’t it? We’re all so different!

I’ve had so many ….. I miss the ones that have disappeared !

Yes! Where did they go? Did I leave them at some bar? Did I just think they were mine but had borrowed it from a boyfriend of yore?

Easiest way to get out of this conundrum is to call it what it is - a denim jacket 😃

Karen, yes that sounds like the way through, but what if it's made with linen? Oh, then is it a Jeans jacket? Hmmmmm...

Denim..!! First produced in Nimes, France in the late 17th century. (De Nimes, get it?) Brought to America early 1800s. First pair of riveted pants, or "jeans" created in 1873 by Levi Strauss in San Francisco. And so on....

So really they should be called, "De Nimes jacket." ha/ha

I have always referred to it as a jean jacket. I don’t think I have ever heard it referred to as jeans jacket? BTW, I love my jean jackets. 🦋

Yes! Having more than one is so important. You've got your dark wash, light wash, I mean, the list could go on and on!

Exactly! 😎

I vote jean jacket.

The Jean Jacket people are winning. I hold steady at "jeans jacket."

I knew I could count on you!! Yes! And you know my mother would NEVER let me wear one. Sigh...I miss her.

I miss my mother who was whole. I hated what Alzheimer’s did to her.

I thought you had a, uh, denim jacket in Frankfurt.

Expand full comment

Yes, Alzheimer's robs...it steals. I loved hearing our mothers laugh together.

No-no denim jackets for the McKnight girls. I wanted one soooooo badly.

I’m assuming you got one in college? Once you were away from home?

You know I did! I have two now and I am on the hunt for another.

This made me laugh. Anyway it is a jean jacket (jean jackets for plural). And for context I am 32 lol.

Just to share a funny story. A few years ago I was looking for one, I've always liked it but struggled to find "the one" because this is a very important clothing item to have when you're in your 20s, at least where I'm from. So I went to many stores, when I finally found it, I bought it and called a friend to tell her, about it, she was excited for me and she came to visit to see it, that should have been my clue, why visit to see a jacket right? I took it out she was shocked, she had a look on her face and she finally said "wow I thought you said you found a ginger cat". I guess I was too excited on the phone it sounded like I said ginger cat instead of jean jacket, so now I call it ginger cat for laughs, inside jokes.

Okay, now you have to start a line of "jean jackets" and call them Ginger Cats. That is such a great story! And yes, it IS a very important clothing item, isn't it?! I have two, I gave away my favorite to someone and she loves it so much. (long story) Now, I am looking for "the one" and a Ginger Cat could be it!

Well, this dates me because I've always called it a jeans jacket. Didn't even know there was an alternative!

Okay, so perhaps it is a generational thing. Hmmm...an anthropological study perhaps? hee/hee

Jean jacket is my recollection. Lisa said she called it a Jean jacket.
