The Glass Ceiling
The messages I heard from society growing up:
You can’t be a priest, you’re a woman
You can’t be an astronaut, you’re a woman
You can’t run a marathon, you’re a woman
You can’t work and have children, you’re a woman
You can’t be President, you’re a woman
Hmmmm…two of the three of these still need shattering (so says Mary).
One issue, I have a say in, and the other I don’t. As a forever registered Independent, I vote. My paternal grandmother would have been in the first cycle of elections where women in our country could vote.(My maternal grandmother did not become a naturalized citizen until the 1940’s)
Here we are, a bit more than 100 years later, and I am so scared for our country.
I just finished reading Erik Larson’s brilliant, The Demon of Unrest. So many of the issues our country is currently facing, are the same which Mr. Larson researched and wrote about as those before and during the Civil War. I highly recommend this book.
What to do? Vote. Be kind. Be loving. Be strong, not violent. Speak up and out about solutions where we all are working for the equal opportunities of each person and protection of our Earth which of course includes the creatures on the Earth.
You can disagree with me. That’s fine. I just ask that you do so in a civil manner so that we can discuss and not degrade one another.
Remember, hitting the “Like” button doesn’t mean you agree with me. It just means you read my piece. Thank you for that. What’s on your mind?
I really like Wendy Parciak’s words, “I am ready for a ceiling to be shattered. A really big one!” My sentiments exactly. Oh, for it to happen! My husband & I both love Erik Larson and are both planning on reading The Demon of Unrest. Glad to receive a big nod from you about it, Mary!
I am ready for a ceiling to be shattered. A really big one!
