Picture this: Feeling my lowest (or what I thought was my lowest-years later I would go even lower.) years ago, I recalled the words of Erika Kane, a character then on the Soap Opera, “All My Children” where she declares, “Nobody controls Erika Kane!” Yep, that’s right, best words of wisdom for me came from a soap opera sometime in the ‘80’s.“No one controls Mary McKnight!”
Yeah, it’s scary as hell being on my own. Let’s face it, at 63, it’s not like the world we live in has a stellar future it’s hawking for me. I’m not going to live in some damn assisted living, eating beige “food” and pressing a red button hoping someone will show up for me.
I’m going to live this life on my terms. That being said, my book, my entry into authorhood has hit a stall. I am not giving up. I’m designing my own damn PR campaign to bring it back. How will I do this? Oh, I’m gonna fly by the seat of my pants and go for a ride. Hey, there’s the name of my PR company, “Fly By the Seat of Your Pants.” I need a logo.
This is the beauty of being a creative with a side of still crazy after all these years. All indicators would say to do otherwise, but I love this part of me. It has been a part of my being since I can first remember.
In the background of my internal campaign is Stevie Wonder’s classic, “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing.” Somehow, he makes me feel so hopeful. This is my story and I’m sticking to it.
Out of Place: Coming of Age in Cold War West Germany https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Out-of-Place/Mary-E-McKnight/9781647427269 the honest tale of a girl on the cusp of becoming a young women in a patriarchal society, in a foreign land, and in a body that is beginning to feel foreign to her as well.
If you have read my book, please, leave a review on Goodreads, or Amazon if you bought it from there. Oh, if you didn’t like it, don’t leave a review. Apparently, independent booksellers decide what they will buy based largely on book reviews. Thank you!
I am still hard at work on my Rom-Com rewrite. This is such a fun read and I am improving it day by day. (Why am I hearing Godspell soundtrack in my head now?)
Welcome to Fly By the Seat of Your Pants PR. Where we champion the complete unknown (Uh oh, Bob Dylan playing, “Like a Rolling Stone” has taken over my internal playlist) and encourage the world to go on the journey of a girl. One step at a time, one awkward step at a time. Thank you for reading today. What journey are you on currently?
I found the book on Amazon. I believe it’s typical to provide a copy in return for a review. I have two friends who’ve published novels and this is how they did it.
I am a technical editor looking to move into the book editing/publishing world as my next chapter. I would be happy to read it and write a review or help you with constructive feedback if you send me a copy or Kindle version.
Mary, how do we get your book to read it? I see a link but it isn’t live. Would I search the Libby app? Providing the book link will help you get more readers and hopefully more reviews
