The term, “Grey hair, don’t care” which is meant to empower women to embrace their silvering, doesn’t work. It’s so negative. So, I have decided to start the “Grey Hair, I Dare!”
Dare I? Damned straight I do. It’s my hair! Is it weird to see a fair haired person looking back in the mirror at me, when for most of my life, my natural color was dark brown? Uhhh…yes, it is!
It still catches me by surprise. It doesn’t make me old. It feels like a different person! I am a different person than I was through my 40’s. My 50’s were a blur for so, so many reasons, but at 63, I can see clearly now.
Okay, well, not really, as I need the aid of glasses or contact lenses which is also really weird for me as most of my life, I needed neither. But the clarity of which I speak is the internal then manifesting externally, and many times spiraling back inwardly.
I do not always have to be on my soap box, but I like my box. Hear ye, hear ye, as I travel around the sun with all of you. I am doing my level best here! I have my first book interview coming up on Nov. 4. I actually have two that day. Both are with radio stations, one in Iowa and one in Connecticut. Kinda cool. I like my voice, I am used to talking in front of others (all these years of teaching) but am kind of nervous because I’ll be talking about…me!
Wait, isn’t that what I do here? I keep encouraging my readers to put their stories below and some of you do, but most do not. I get it. Life is busy. But, if you were just to take a couple of minutes and drop me a story of your “Becoming” I would love it so much!
So, what did it take for you to Become You? I would love to read about this. I find humans so fascinating. I am reading Germania by Simon Winder and it is hysterical. Of course, having lived in Germany, it has special meaning for me. What are you reading? (Do you see what I am doing here? I am trying so, so hard to get you to comment below!) Tell me something. Tell me about your shoes. Tell me about your coat (I am currently wearing my dad’s old Army Field jacket-it makes me feel so secure in his absence from Earth).
Alright, enough asked. Grey Hair, I Dare. Thank you for reading my piece today.
grey looks fantastic on most women - starting from the first strands in early 30s to 'expiry date' ... and, platinum is as the name of the color implies, awe inspiring! Call me 'guy who's loved the grey' from a very young age!
Mary,
First time to your newsletter and first post read! Instantly knowing I am going to LOVE reading your work! I have DARED to let the grey emerge, wrestle with reading glasses (though I am blind without my contacts), and love a good life storytelling as well! The other connection is Marilyn Graham Werden! If she says you are someone to follow, then I am HERE! Looking forward to reading more! Congratulations on the book interviews and hope you'll be sharing that experience! Blessings! ~Wendy💜
